Ex-MEGADETH Guitarist JEFF YOUNG: Solo Album Samples Posted Online
May 29, 2006Former MEGADETH guitarist Jeff Young has posted three songs from his upcoming debut solo album, "Equilibrium", at this location.
Commented Young: "'Equilibrium' represents a life's work — or life's play, as it were. A majority of the music is written and performed on flamenco and classical guitar however, not necessarily in a context you might expect. I'm also playing a fair amount of steel-string acoustic (6 and 12) and electric throughout so there's plenty of plucking and picking fun for everyone! I'm grateful to have so many talented accomplices share in this musical process including the stellar voices of Debby Holiday, Badi Assad, Lenine, Sage Sansone and Gilli Moon. Drummers Matt Chamberlain, Marcos Suzano, Hilary Jones and Simone Soul beat on a bunch of stuff and bassist Tony Franklin added his famed fretless prowess to the proceedings. Badi's brothers Sergio and Odair were even kind enough to join me for a guitar trio on one track.
"To accommodate the diversity of musicians involved in the project, we journeyed from my studio in Sarasota, Florida to Malibu and Los Angeles California, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, Brazil. The process culminated in Nashville, Tennessee with my longtime friend and sonic facilitator, Michael Wagener."
Young recently launched a revolutionary online guitar instruction and exploration community at www.zenguitarist.net. The program is for all levels and styles, with enrollment to begin soon.
Jeff Young co-wrote two compositions on Badi Assad's 2005 Deutsche Grammophon release, "Verde" (or "Green" in English). The album was released in America on September 13, 2005, having already charted in the Top 15 on Europe's World Music Charts. The two songs co-written by Jeff and Badi are track #2 ("Nao Adianta") and track #12 ("The Being Between").
